Senior Sunday

Yesterday was Senior Day at our church.
That means that we are BUSY!
Michael spent all week preparing for his sermon, and he did such a great job!
(I'm biased, I know, but other people told me he did good too)
He even got a few good laughs out of the crowd!
Then we showed the video (slideshow) of all the seniors that I worked on all Saturday.
Basically, I'm saying we had no life other than Senior Sunday this weekend, and so that is all I have to post about today.

Here is Michael handing out the Bibles to some of the seniors
And here is the Jersey Village church of Christ class of 2011!We only met them a month and a half ago, but I already love them all and am going to be so sad when they leave.
At least we have all summer together!

In other news, MY PARENTS ARE COMING TODAY!!
I'm so excited!
My mom has a conference here all week and my dad just came for fun!
Hopefully that will mean more exciting posts coming your way!

PS - How sad it is that I just found out 2 kids in our youth group aren't twins? We've been there for 6 weeks, and they have been lying to me the entire time.
Rude.

Couch Potato

Here it is - my first before and after post!
I'll warn you though, its a pretty long journey to the end.

3 years ago, as Michael and I were preparing to get married, we found out that his parents had lots of furniture that they had been saving for us!
Hallelujah!
What a blessing!
Being the early twenties, first real job, and college student that we were - we were poor.
And our living room would have consisted of lawn chairs and a disk chair (c/o Uncle Jimmy)
I can't find a picture of our first apartment's living room, but if you just picture very boring walls, no lighting, and gray uncomfortable carpet - you've got it.
Thanks OC!

Here is a picture of the apartment we lived in the first year we were in Houston.
There are a few things wrong with this picture.
1) We used slip covers (remember the ugly couch here...that's why!) However they only looked like this for about 20 seconds after we put them on. After that, there was no hope.
2) Those curtains. I liked them at first, but my how times have changed. I despise those curtains.

Here is a picture of the living room in the rent house we live in now.And the ugly, hand-me down couchAs you can see, we got rid of the slip covers.
A bit of advice - Never use slip covers...NEVER!
Run from them as fast as you can!
We took them off to wash them about 3 months ago and never put them back on because we were so tired of them.
We had been wanting to get new couches for awhile now.
Though our couches were great in the beginning, they had seen better days.
(They were Michael's Aunt and Uncle's, then his sister Krista's, and then ours)
Look how worn the cushions are.
Also, one of the legs breaks off if you sit down too hard! haha!
Its a little funny to watch when people don't know.

Once tax-return time came around, we decided it was time to get new couches!
I knew the style I wanted and the color, but that was about it.
I went to Dream Town Mattress and Furniture in Katy (a business that some friends from Memorial own/operate) and they made it so easy for me!
See knew exactly what to get us and we absolutely love them!!

Here is the new loveseatAnd the new view of the living room
(I can't wait for the day when we have our own house and can paint the walls a color other than white)

We're almost done - I promise!
Remember those terrible, horrible curtains I told you about?
Well, I had a little freak out a few weeks ago and just ripped them off the walls and threw them away.
Michael was baffled.
The house we live in has small windows with dark screens.
When you add those thick, sunlight blocking curtains, we were essentially living in a cave.
I couldn't stand it.
The rods stayed up there with nothing on them for about 2 months before I found these new curtains. They are light. And colorful. And they allow sunlight to come through. And they are PERFECT.

And now, our living room is pretty much complete!
I wanted you to see the couches with the curtains so here is my attempt. No, I did not get off the couch to take this picture because 1) I am too lazy and 2) these couches are SOOOO comfortable I don't think I will ever get up!
I'm officially going to be a couch potato.

(Please ignore our dining room table...its my work station for the time being)

So, what do you think?
Here is the before one more time
And the after!I could not be happier!

Hope you all have a great weekend!!

Chicken Dinner

Don't get your hopes up, this post is not actually about a yummy poultry meal.
I'm not that good of a cook.
I wanted to use this post to say "thanks" to a few people that have made by day lately through their blog giveaways that I won.
(Get it, winner winner...chicken dinner?)

First is Kitty.
Her blog is fully of DIY crafts that are cute and simple.
She is very talented.
Check her out here
I won these precious flower earrings and I absolutely love them!I obviously don't have a future in earring modeling.
Sorry so awkward
Then, Kitty was just feeling generous one night on facebook and gave me this awesome laptop cover!!
And last week I won this book on Amber's blog!
Her blog is all about her life with school, work, and her faith and her upcoming wedding!
She is so creative and crafty!
See her blog here
I'm loving it already and can't wait to see the movie!
Thank you, thank you to both of you!! You are so sweet and generous!

Last night was the Student Recognition Dinner for the graduates of the MFT Program.
It was put on by the Family Therapy Student Association.
Here is the board (officers) from this past year, and the board for next year.
2011-2012 FTSA BoardWe're pretty much gangstas. We're cool. Its going to be a BUSY year, but I'm excited to work with this great group of girls!

Puppy Love

Meet Buster
Isn't he the cutest thing ever?
This is what he looks like most of the time.
Shaggy hair that is so long you can't see his eyes.
Michael was on a walk with him one time and a kid asked if he was a sheep. Ha!I am obsessed with him!
I have never really been a dog person, but I definitely am now.
We got him from the Houston Poodle Rescue and I fell in love with him the minute I saw him.
He is a Schnoodle (Schnauzer/Poodle)
His name was Koodle back then. We fixed that real fast.
He was completely potty-trained from the day we brought him home (thank you Lord!) and he is the biggest snuggle bear you will ever meet.He also has an attitude.
Here are my boys giving me the stink eye for making them take pictures. He's been real itchy lately (pesky fleas)
Plus, its hot here!
So today he went to the groomer, and he came back looking like this. His hair isn't as short as it usually is when he gets groomed.
Last time, they pretty much shaved all of his hair off.
He was embarrassed.
I would be too though if I had to walk around naked for a month for all my hair to grow back.
At least all his fleas are gone now so I can cuddle him all I want!

PS - I don't want to talk about the ugly couch he is sitting on in the last picture.
At least not for 2 more days!

Take Me Out to the Ball Game

Tonight we went to our first Astros game of the 2011 season.
If you haven't been yet, you're not missing much.
Unfortunately, the ole Stros are having a rough time this year.
We left in the middle of the 7th (so sad to miss out on the Texas song...) and they were down 7-0.
The seats were great though!
And so was the food!
And we had a great time whether anyone got on base or not!
Thanks to the Whitworths for inviting us!

Just relaxing in our club seats during batting practice
Is it true that you can't buy these in Yankee stadium??Yum! My favorite!

In celebration of finishing my semester, I went to get a mani-pedi today. My nail lady scolded me for not coming in so long (talk to my husband!) but they got new massage chairs so it was worth it!

Finished!

I have officially completed the first year of my Masters!
Only 2 more to go!
Which means I am 1/3 of a Marriage and Family Therapist!
Haha!
If you can't tell, I'm a little delirious from finishing my final at 2:00am.

May is my month of Summer Break and I could not be more excited.
If you need me, I will be reading (books of my choice, not required textbooks) scrapbooking, crafting (trying to craft) and relaxing.
I'll also be making a video for Senior Sunday, but its for Michael so it doesn't count.

In other news, I found this cool app the other day that turns your pictures into polaroids!
I'm sure you guys discovered this like 6 months ago, but I'm just catching on and I am obsessed.
Don't these pictures look 1000 times cooler?
Love it!

PS - This post screams "It's Monday!"
Sorry so lame.
I think I'll go take a nap now...

Mommy and Me

This post is dedicated to my wonderful Mom in honor of Mother's Day this weekend!
I can't even remember the last time I was actually with my Mother on Mother's Day (I'm a bad daughter! And, I'm married to a minister, so we kind of need to be at our church on Sundays.)
So, since I can't be there, I thought I would post some photos of my Mommy and me!

She is great at giving hugs!
She passed on her love/obsession with all things red, green, and gold during Christmas!
She uses vacation days to come and visit me in Houston
Our most recent family photo. From 2009
She helped me get ready and cut off my tags on wedding day
Like Mother like daughter(s) August 2008
She hooded (?) me at my OC Graduation
She taught me the magic of cheese dip on game day. Boomer Sooner!
She has taught me so much about what it means to be a Christian woman, a wife, a hard-worker, and a mother (someday)
I'm so blessed to have such a kind, loving, kind of crazy mom...
and I'm so thankful that I turned out just like her!

Love you Mom!
HAPPY MOTHER'S DAY!!
